Sundays

Sundays always seem a little dreary...I mean, the inevitable Monday is nearing, so the day always has a little cloud over it. However, I have determined to make them the best possible...so I have adopted new rituals I hope to keep.

First, baths are a must. And with some lavender, and my new bath pillow, they should be better than ever...so every night, I shall take a long bath.

Movies. And with the wonderful Christmas movies on Lifetime and TBS, the options seem endless (also, I have an MVP account with Hollywood video...so we rented Fred Clause today as well)...Movies transport you, and keep you out of shopping, and in the warmth of your home (and possibly your bed!). They are perfect for Sunday!

Also, eating in is going to be a new ritual. I (along with Mike) tend to eat out ALL THE TIME. So, tonight, we went to Vons and bought $182.89 of good food...sushi, salmon, cheeses, fruits, vitamin water (and of course, NyQuil for my current cold!). This will cut-down on the time I waste out of the house, and the high-fat, high-calorie food I typically eat.

Sunday nights are also fun now because we have a BEAUTIFUL new Christmas tree, decorated with beautiful ornaments my mom bought (first they were my Baba's, now they are mine---coupled with others bought at Downtown Disney). And lights are outside around our bushes. It is a little magical.

Well, time to finish the current Christmas movie...

Sparta, Rome, Greece?

For someone who loves history as much as me, it is a pity I have yet to visit some of the places I love so much. So, as I am on the couch, watching the History Channel, I have decided to write down a listed of the places I wish to visit most of all (of course, traveling 5 star, with a luxurious Louis Vuitton luggage set!:)

5. Russia
4. Pyramids in Egypt (Giza)
3. Ancient Athens Ruins, including the Parthenon (Greece)
2. Tomb of Leonidas-King of Sparta, and legend of the Battle of Thermopylae and Sparta (Greece)
1. Roman Colosseum, Forum and The Vatican (tie) (Rome)

I hope to visit all of these...because they are so important, to my life. Russia, is the land of my ancestors. Egypt was the first far-away place I fell-in-love with. Athens is home to some of the most prolific philosophy of our time, philosophy that I have adopted. Sparta is land of one of the greatest military quests in history, and the resting place of one of the best leaders to have lived. And Rome, Rome is my second home (despite never having visited). It houses the ruins of my favorite time-period/place and the center of my religion...

Black Friday Shopping Recap

So, despite my efforts to save, I did go out shopping on Black Friday. I woke up at 5AM, and was in Macy's by 6AM (they had already been open for an hour). I went with my parents, and Mike...and we were all overwhelmed by 6:30AM. Honestly, it didn't seem like there were so many bargains (Macy's had two good coupons in the paper, $10 off $25, and 15% off everything till 1PM---everything except designer brands, etc). And it also appeared like others agreed...as very few had loads of filled bags.

Club Monaco had 30% off everything till 1PM, so I bought (and have since returned) two shirts...

J Crew had 25% off sales items, but really, that was it.

Bloomingdale's had their "Big Brown Bag" sale, but all the good stuff seemed to be gone, especially by Saturday!

The data for the day are in, and apparently sales were still up for 2008, despite the bleak economy. Maybe they were not a South Coast Plaza?!

It wasn't until I was tired at 7AM did I realize my dad was right...my time was worth more than the $10 or $20 I was going to save...

Christmas List

I watched this cute, decade-old, cheesy Christmas Movie with Mimi Rogers called The Christmas List. She wrote her wishes down, and then they came true...they were not crazy-crazy wishes (i.e. a car, new job, makeover), so I have decided to do the same...but more detailed :)

1) Diamond Earrings: Tiffany Circlet Earrings

2)Marc Jacobs Blake from Fall 2007

3) Vacation (i am not greedy, i will save europe for the delayed honeymoon) to Maui, at the Four Seasons Wailea, or the Westin Kaanapali (stayed at both, they are divine!).

4) Job? Okay, my job is good, but since this is imaginary, I would like to be the Director of a Transfer Center at a CCC. I can dream :)

5) Christmas at Pa and Baba's...with all the family, the large Christmas tree (tastefully decorated by my mom), and food by Draegers ... since this would require people who have since passed, this would really be a miracle (and I guess shouldn't really be on this list...)

6) Origins "Calm to your senses" gift set, for life :) Yummy, warm, and really does calm (note: does not last long, which is why you need to be sure have a supply for life). The body souffle is great...I also love their body scrub...

7) Ted Gibson Hair Sheets-since I know him, I am biased, but he is a genius. These sheets are one-time use hair products, but cut down frizz, add the right amount of shine, and smell divine. I also use his Brazen Brown Shampoo, which is just yummy , but you need the conditioner too which is another chunk of change. Mike just bought me two new ones, so I am set on the shampoo and conditioner.

8) Evian Facial Water Spray. Officially my favorite product of all-time. $16 per bottle, I use them like they are tap water, but find them worth every penny. It rejuvenates you, easy to carry (if you get the travel size), and is from France...need I say more?

9) UCLA Graduation- for my brother. Once he graduates college, I could die happy, or at least at peace (note: remember from a previous post, I am usually an unhappy person).

10) Watches, by Cartier. The stainless steel tank is the world's most classic watch, and I want a set, one for me, and one for Mike :)

11) New 2nd home for my parents...to eliminate a house hunt!

Clearly, some are more important wishes than others....and some are more realistic, too!

Blog? About me?

This is a half-hearted attempt at a hobby. I opted out of beading (haven't done it since I was 10 and it seems juvenile), cannot get into knitting (despite my good friend Lei and her excellent creations), hate working out (despite my 5 star gym literally 15 steps out my door), and need to curb my shopping (hey, aren't we all worried about the economy?!)...

So in an effort to not step into a J Crew for a while, or go online to Bloomingdale's for their "Brown Bag Sale", I have decided to share my boring life (or parts of it!) and blog about random things (perhaps about those sales I dare to stay away from...).

About me: twenty-something, plain/classic Northern California girl, who now finds herself in the trendy Orange County, CA...

My style and personality are a bit of every place I have lived: Santa Cruz, CA (hippy surf-town), Menlo Park, CA (classic WASP town), Westwood, CA (smashed between Brentwood, Bel-Air, and Beverly Hills-need I say more?), New York City (proud former resident of the uber-chic and cultured Manhattan), Philadelphia (boring, but very patriotic and the Jewish Ivy was good!), and Aliso Viejo (clean, upper-class suburb in the OC, next to Laguna).

I am fairly well educated (product of UCLA and a two Ivy Leagues). I love schools (if you could not tell).

I enjoy shopping, and am becoming addicted. I have a Tiffany Blue Card but have managed not to do too much damage with a J Crew card, or a Nordstroms one...I spend about 75% of my free time "online shopping". Thankfully, most of which is imaginary...and never makes it to checkout.

My all-time favorite place really is Tiffany's. No lie. I fully, 100% believe nothing bad could ever happen there...and recently, I was able to do the unimaginable, and pick-up a custom designed Tiffany & Co engagement ring, courtesy of Mike. It is beyond fabulous, and the sleek emerald-cut diamond is perfect for my personality...and reminds me of Grace Kelly.

I used to golf. It was the single biggest part of my life for about 10 years. In fact, I never thought there would be a day when I didn't golf. But, here I am, in my 20s, and I haven't picked up a club in ages...It is debatable as to whether or not I enjoyed golf. I suppose it doesn't matter, but sometimes, there was nothing more peaceful, than playing a few holes, late at night, alone. Aside from those memories, I have a bunch of old trophies, and Tiger Woods autographs to boot!

I love my small condo. It is super small, but the appox 600sf are adorable (oh the sacrifices you make to live in a nice suburb of Orange County, CA!!!! I wonder what a bunch over a quarter of a million buys you in Kansas?! Or North Carolina?!)...and I have pictures to prove it :) I am addicted to HGTV and all-things Pottery Barn. I could live here forever, in my complex...

I was a doctoral candidate for a few weeks at the enemy school. Health did not permit , and I look forward to someday attending a different program...perhaps at UCLA?!

Mike really is great. He's cute (once again, I have pics to prove it!), he is smart (he also attended that jewish ivy), he does everything for me (cooks, cleans, shops, does the laundry, drives, etc.) but most importantly, he loves me despite all my flaws (and there are plenty).

I am generally a stressed, but somewhat happy, person, and am working on it...but think that it isn't anything a pill, a good wine and bath cannot fix...or a shopping trip to Tiffany's.
